Day 1: Arrive Johannesburg

You are met right off the plane at Johannesburg International Airport and are assisted through customs and immigration. Your hotel is just a few steps away from the terminal building. Overnight InterContinental Hotel.

Day 2, 3 & 4: Madikwe Private Game Reserve

Return to the airport this morning for the quick light aircraft flight to your first safari camp. An open Land Rovers stand ready to take you on safari and to your luxury lodge. Enjoy the safari experience in the remarkable Madikwe Game Reserve, a 75 000 hectare reserve restored from farmland to its natural environment. The reserve is home to 66 large mammal species including the Big Five and approximately 300 resident and migrant bird species. The reserve has diverse eco-systems of vast plains of open woodlands and grasslands, dissected by the rugged Rant van Tweedepoort, and bordered in the south by the Dwarsberg Mountains. Madikwe Safari Lodge Kopano

Kopano Lodge (Tswana for 'small gathering') is the gem in the Madikwe Safari Lodge collection. The four exclusive suites offer open floor plans for a seamless transition between the comfortable indoors and the beauty of the wilderness. Each suite has a private plunge pool, air-conditioning, a fireplace and electric blankets for chilly winter nights. Day 5, 6 & 7: Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, Greater Kruger Park

You are picked up at Madikwe for the 3-4 hour road transfer back to Johannesburg, through the scenic Gauteng province, arriving in time to meet the light aircraft flight to Sabi Sands where you are met on arrival and transferred to Lion Sands private reserve. The Sabi Sands Game Reserve is undoubtedly the most exclusive private game reserve in South Africa. The 65,000 hectare Reserve is located on the south-western corner of the Kruger National Park. There are no restricting fences between the Kruger Park and Sabi Sands and the wildlife roams freely between the two game reserves. This reserve is renowned for exception leopard sightings so keep en eye out on game drives and walks! Three nights Lion Sands River Lodge. All meals.

Lion Sands River Lodge

Lion Sands Private Game Reserve is located in the finest territory of the world famous Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Mpumalanga, South Africa. Facing due east, the lodge catches the sun as it rises over the Kruger National Park. Hosted by a family of staff that make it feel like home away from home, the lodge is about spirit, warmth and nature. Here you are invited to relax and experience African hospitality at its finest. A unique treehouse was built at the original site where Guy Aubrey Chalkley had climbed into the trees and set up camp to escape from predators roaming the plains below. The treehouse is a secure bush bedroom under the African stars, with all the comforts that a guest can experience at a five star safari lodge.

Guests are taken to the treehouse at sunset, where drinks and a delicious picnic dinner await them. They then enjoy the hours of African dusk relaxing and absorbing the beauty and sounds of the bushveld as it transforms from day to night, before turning in for slumber beneath the stars. As dawn breaks, guests are collected by their ranger for a morning game drive, followed by a delicious bush breakfast at one of the many animal and bird hides.

The privacy and seclusion of Chalkley Treehouse allows guests to be completely alone in the wilderness - a unique experience that few places in the world can truly offer. Chalkley Treehouse is built around a majestic 500 year-old Leadwood Tree, with secure access and beautiful views extending over the plains.In the treehouse, a bush bedroom is set up to accommodate a single/sharing guest/s for the night with secure access and as many of the room comforts as are practically possible, mosquito net, mattress, linen, bedside table, toilet & bush vanity table.*

Day 8: Cape Town

Bid farewell to the wilderness today and transfer to the Kruger Airport for the direct scheduled flight to Cape Town (flight on own). You are met on arrival and transferred to your boutique hotel in the city bowl. Overnight Cape Cadogan. Breakfast.

Day 9: Cape Peninsula

You are picked up at your hotel and embark on a private tour today which starts with the beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay, before crossing over to Hout Bay, where you may choose to join an optional boat cruise to Seal Island. Continue to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve via Chapman’s Peak, one of the world’s most breathtaking coastal drives, where a funicular takes you to the top of the Peninsula to witness the symbolic meeting of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans and enjoy spectacular views over False Bay. Stop for lunch in the area before continuing to Simonstown, the naval base, and then visit the African Penguin breeding colony at Boulders Beach. On the return trip, enjoy a stop at the world renowned Kirstenbosch Gardens before arriving at your hotel late this afternoon. Overnight Cape Cadogan. Breakfast.

Day 10: Cape Winelands

Today relax and enjoy a delightful drive through the Winelands; your private tour route winds its way through superb mountain ranges, vineyards and Cape Dutch homesteads. Your first stop is Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa, with canal lined avenues, and magnificent examples of Cape Dutch architecture where you enjoy your first wine tasting, coupled with a chocolate and dessert tasting. Onward over the scenic Helshoogte Pass, to Franschhoek, founded by French Huguenots over 350 years ago, and widely regarded as the culinary capital of South Africa. Its beautiful setting and café lined streets will charm you and a further wine tasting is included at one of the renowned estates in this area. Your final stop is at the town of Paarl, at the foot of a cluster of remarkable granite domes where you do your last wine tasting of the day, before heading back to Cape Town. Overnight Cape Grace. Breakfast.

Day 11: Cape Town

On your last full morning in South Africa, explore the city of Cape Town, known affectionately as the Mother City, with your private guide. Your shared tour will take in the Houses of Parliament, the Castle (built between 1666 and 1679, this is South Africa’s oldest building), the lively Greenmarket Square with its daily market, the Company Gardens and of course Table Mountain, which will give you spectacular views over the city and the Peninsula. (The cable car fee is not included as it is weather dependent). As you come back down from the mountain, make a stop at Bo-Kaap, home to the Cape Malay community, with its cobbled streets and brightly colored houses. From here you have the choice of being dropped off at the Waterfront to experience this vibrant location at your own pace, with its many shops, restaurants and pubs, or at your hotel in time for lunch.

Day 12: Depart

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast today. You are transferred to Cape Town Airport with ample time to catch your onward flights home. Breakfast.
