The Ship

Fully refreshed in 2015 from new sustainable wood floors to sun protective deck awnings, the 130 foot long Aqua Amazon was custom built by leading Peruvian architect Jordi Puig to explore in the utmost comfort. Generous picture windows face the Amazon River in each of 12 cruise ship suites, four of which can be interconnected for families. All of the Aqua Amazon’s eight oversized, air-conditioned guest suites measure a spacious 230 square feet with panoramic picture windows designed to deliver Aqua Expeditions signature “eye-level cruising” with maximum privacy. Master Suites aboard the Aqua Amazon are located at the front of the vessel with two on each deck. These even grander accommodations each measure 240 square feet and contain all of the features of the suites, enhanced by extra space for luxurious lounging.

Each of our suites incorporates the ultimate in luxurious comfort for Aqua Amazon guests with a California king size bed (that can be split into two twin beds) made up with 100% Peruvian cotton sheets. Suites confer a luxury Amazon River lodge ambiance, complete with original Amazonia images by French photographer Jean Claude Constant, an en suite sitting area from which to watch the wonders of the Amazon jungle flora and fauna float by, and a private bathroom incorporating the latest eco-sensitive technology.

Aqua's 2015 comprehensive enhancement program included entirely new textiles, upgraded lighting and the latest technology further secures this ship’s position at the forefront of luxury Amazon River travel. Spacious and indulgent, yet intimate enough to feel exclusive, the Aqua Amazon incorporates extremely generous lounging and dining areas, and can accommodate a maximum of 24 guests plus the ships crew. Aqua Expeditions highly experienced river pilots and the most rigorous cruise ship standards ensure smooth travels and an unforgettable experience.

5 Star Cuisine

Hearts of palm soufflé, scallops with wild almonds and umari fruit, plantain and yucca gnocchi, escolar fish in aji panka chili adobo, grilled paiche with Amazon huatia potatoes are just some of the regional delicacies created by Aqua Expeditions Amazon Executive Chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino. Schiaffino has earned global recognition, including from The Diners Club® World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, for his innovative Amazonia-influenced cuisine, served at Malabar and Amaz, two of his top-ranked Lima restaurants, as well as on board the Aqua Amazon and Aria Amazon.

Though Peruvian cuisine has made its way around the world, many of Schiaffino’s obscure yet delectable ingredients grow only the Amazon jungle. He has spent years studying the cooking traditions and food resources of Amazonia, working beyond the kitchen with anthropologists and environmental scientists. The Lima based chef returns often to go even deeper into this dense jungle in search of the next sustainable ingredients he’ll incorporate to create original recipes for Aqua Expeditions guests on the Amazon.

Schiaffino says around 70% of all ingredients on board are sourced in the waters and rainforest surrounding our journey, but guests may rest assured that dishes also stay true to more accessible indigenous traditions like Peruvian ceviche, with its succulent tranches of just caught river fish, juicy onions, cilantro, coriander and corn kernels the size of South Sea pearls.
