Casa Mojanda

Built as a labor of love and dedication to true eco principals, Casa Mojanda opened in 1995. The lodge has a firm commitment to the practices of eco-tourism and was designed to have as minimal impact as possible on the local ecosystem and culture - earth-friendly construction methods were used such as rammed earth adobe, non-endangered wood, brick and straw. The on-site organic farm and gardens utilize biodynamic and permaculture farming methods. The lodge provides meaningful and secure employment to as many local community members as possible and they always strive to purchase supplies and goods from local co-ops utilizing fair trade principles.

The Lodge and Grounds

The on-site restaurant serves healthy, creative home-cooked meals that combine traditional Ecuadorian and international recipes made from produce harvested daily from the lodge’s organic garden. They grow their own wheat, quinoa, corn and potatoes and fresh milk is delivered daily by the neighbors. Guests are always welcome to spend time in the garden and kitchen. The lodge can accommodate special diets and requests. Each cabin offers en suite bathrooms with hot water, sitting areas and some have fireplaces. All are tastefully decorated with local textiles, art, lithographs and wood carvings. The lodge offers expansive views, wi-fi and use of its traditional Japanese-style hot tub. The lodge is located near the craft markets and villages of Otavalo. Stroll the grounds and gardens, bird watch, relax in the Japanese hot tub or go horse back riding.
