The Camp

The renowned, and now totally rebuilt (opening March 2017), Duba Plains Camp sits in the heart the Okavango Delta. A matrix of palm-dotted islands, flood plains and woodland, the 77,000 acre private concession typifies the region’s unique landscape. Duba Plains Camp will have 5 bespoke tents, in addition to a 2 bedroom suite aptly named the Duba Plains Suite, all designed by Dereck Joubert to fit into the forest and to take advantage of the shapes and textures of shade but also to evoke the old classic African safari style of the 1920’s. It is a wildlife connoisseur’s getaway with literally thousands of animals in an almost endless pattern across the rolling plains.

The main camp area consists of a large raised dining room, and comfortable lounge with private dining areas, wine cellar and library, with ample space for guests to either enjoy privacy or the company of other guests. Guests staying at the Duba Plains Suite automatically enjoy the services of a private game drive vehicle with their own guide as well as a a private butler and chef. The camp’s center-point is the gathering place of all bush experiences, the fire place on an extended deck over the swamp from which a nightly serenade of insects, frogs and birds settling in resounds.

The Tents

The intimate Duba Plains Camp consist of just five traditional-style tents, and a separate two bedroom Duba Plains Suite for families, all on raised decking with views of the surrounding floodplain and the steady stream of wildlife parading past. Each tent has a lounge area, with place to write and journal your days adventures or sort through your photos, as well as the opportunity for private dining in your tent. The tent features a private veranda plus beautifully appointed en-suite facilities consisting of flush loo, double basins and indoor and outdoor showers and luxurious baths. Ceiling fans and careful design maintain a comfortable climate for rest and relaxation. Alternatively, relax outdoors in the private plunge pool or under the cover of the private sala/day rest area.

The Activities

Duba Plains prides itself on its extraordinary wildlife experiences and intimate up close exposure to the best of the best wildlife, from lions and leopards to elephants and buffalo and everything in between. Duba Plains is also known for interesting Kalahari species like Aardwolf and Pangolins. Explore the African bush on morning and evening game drives or by water way on boats or in a mokoro (dug out canoe). Evening game drives cap a perfect day with a sundowner stop. Enjoy a cocktail or beer while you watch the sun fade from the massive African sky in a location hand picked by the guides to offer the best views.

The Cuisine

Duba Plains prides itself in its cuisine with a trained executive chef and a hand picked wine list. The camp boasts a cellar of a few hundred bottles of wine from friends of the Jouberts – winemakers who tell their story beyond the bottle, conservationists, people who have a community they support or something they give back besides being on the Great Plains Wine Selection for the quality of their wines. Breakfast, lunch and dinners are enjoyed in the main camps dining area, or can be enjoyed as a private dinner in you tent or under the African stars.
