Iberá Wetlands

Iberá is a scenically amazing mix of swamps, bogs, stagnant lakes, lagoons, natural slough and courses of water ways snaking through the world’s second largest wetlands and the most important fresh water reservoir in the continent.

The Iberá lake and marshlands have been said to be one of the last natural paradises on earth. A visit to this amazing area is often rewarded with a face to face with caimans, capybaras, swamp deer, pampas deer, howler monkeys, giant otters, anacondas, greater rheas and hundreds of birds. The wetlands cover over 5,019 square miles of marsh with over 60 lakes. The nature reserve, founded in the year 1983, is located 500 miles north of Buenos Aires.

Due to the mild climate, isolation and conservation, the marsh is an area where wild animals have been able to remain the star of the show, unphased by human presence. Within Argentina and South America, the Iberá Wetlands are the Ornithologist’s Mecca. Over 350 species of birds live in this virgin landscape and most of them can be spotted easily.

The reserve allows for game drives, hiking, boat trips and horseback riding along the waterways putting you up close to the entirety of the amazing wild and birdlife that the Iberá Wetlands have to offer.
