The Lodge

Known as the sunrise camp, Little Chem Chem is situated on the edge of an acacia forest. The camp is surrounded by the characteristic landscape of the Tarangire River with its impressive Baobab trees and overlooks the freshwater of Lake Burunge. The Babati mountain range offers a magnificent backdrop to the south-west, with the distant hills of Tarangire rising in the north-east. The atmosphere at Little Chem Chem is welcoming, elegant and boasts the authenticity of a bygone era. The luxury of sharing 16’000ha with only 10 guests sets the ideal stage for a perfect melding of luxury a luxury safari experience and the Africa wilderness at its very best. Lions roam the camp and call each other at night; stately elephants march down to Lake Burunge to get a sprinkling of fresh water; cheetahs hunt on the plains facing the lake; leopards, eland and lesser kudu can be seen in the more dense woods in the inner part of the concession. And wherever there is water, an abundance of colorful bird life can be found. The Suites

Little Chem Chem offers five exquisitely decorated tents, each with a large bedroom (three have king-size beds, two offer twin beds), with a rocking chair and study desk, a vanity area with dressing room and an en suite bathroom with a shower and flushing toilet. Embracing an ‘Out-of-Africa’ atmosphere, each tent also offers a private fire pit to huddle around in the evenings and enjoy the sounds as the Africa night comes to life.

The Activities

Little Chem Chem offers a wonderful array of activities allowing guests to enjoy the Africa bush from many perspectives. Walking safaris allow you to slow down and take in the insects, plants and trees as well as the unique chance of a wildlife close encounter. Game drives are taken daily in the mornings and evenings. During evening game drives a stop is often made, just before sunset, at a pre selected perfect location from which to enjoy a cocktail while watching the last of the light fade from the vast African sky. Day trip to Tarangire National Park offer an opportunity to see elephant herds numbering in the hundreds as well as see the great Baobab Trees.

Other activities available at an additional cost include hot air ballooning for a birds eye view of the amazing landscape and wildlife that inhabit it, helicopter trips over Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, and a once ina lifetime opportunity to spend the day with Chem Chem's anti poaching team to learn more about the ongoing efforts to protect the areas wildlife.
