The Camp

In the heart of the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, there is a place where two valleys meet, an ancient fig tree and a tranquil waterhole mark your ‘home away from home’ at this South Africa safari lodge. Built on Madikwe’s rolling slopes, Tuningi Private Camp offers an exclusive luxurious experience, accommodating 6 adults or 4 adults and 2 children. This Private Camp is set away from the Main Lodge, yet joined to it by a wooden walkway. It is the perfect escape for guests who are in search of the ultimate privacy, and has been purposefully designed to cater for families and small group safaris.

Tuningi also boasts a sparkling swimming pool, private use boma for dining under the African stars, private lounge, dining room and kitchen, and polished wood platform viewing deck.

The Suites

Little Tuningi’s Luxury Suite accommodates 2 adults, while the Family Suite accommodates either 2 adults and 2 children or 4 adults. The Family Suite has two en-suite bedrooms, an adjoining lounge and dining room, kitchenette and a wrap-around wooden deck. Fold-away glass doors on both the Luxury Suites and the Family Suite open up to a breathtaking view of the surrounding bush.

The spacious Luxury Suite and the two en-suite bedrooms in the Family Suite are all air-conditioned and have ceiling fans and a gas fireplace. The beautifully appointed bathrooms boast a gas fireplace, over-sized bath, double basins and an alfresco rock shower. Each suite and bedroom are set with well appointed furniture that perfectly melds the wildness of the bush with the comfort of luxury, a sitting area and plush bedding with fine linens.

The Activities

Madikwe Game Reserve, one of the largest private game reserves in South Africa, boasts a rich diversity of vegetation ensuring a wide range of game while the topography offers ideal game viewing opportunities. Madikwe is one of few game reserves in the world that was proclaimed a wildlife reserve purely on the grounds of being the most appropriate and sustainable land area for such use.

With the exclusive use of your private guide and safari vehicle, the area is yours to explore on the schedule that fits you best. Morning and evening game drives are recommended as the animals tend to hide away with the heat of the afternoon sun. A stop is often made along the evening game drive to enjoy drink or cocktail of your choice as you watch the last of the days light fades below the vast African horizon. Sundowners are an old safari tradition. Walking safaris are an amazing way to get a fell for Africa under foot and slow down to learn about the grasses and insects. Keep your eyes peeled, though, for a possible close up encounter with the larger animals!
