Oliver's Camp

Established by pioneer Paul Oliver in 1992 this camp is for safari enthusiasts wanting more than the postcard-snaps of the Big Five. Set in the secluded Tarangire National Park, it’s a camp that celebrates back-to-basics luxury in one of the most uncrowded corners of East Africa.

Oliver’s Camp is situated in the remote south-eastern reaches of the Tarangire National Park. This relatively undeveloped park celebrated by safari travelers looking to head a little off the beaten track and offers a welcome respite from the crowds of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater to the north.

Tents at Oliver's Camp

At Oliver’s the 10 en-suite safari tents offer bush luxury without superfluous frills; the spacious outdoor shower perhaps the one extravagance you’ll happily allow.

It’s a camp where the blood-red leather armchairs match the ochre soils beyond the decking; where headboards are hand-carved from African mahogany and baobab trees puncture the horizon from your private veranda.

Come nightfall, little more than canvas separates your king-size bed from the restless wilderness beyond. Meals are taken communally at the main lodge, while around the campfire whiskies are poured and safari tales told late into the night.

Activities at Oliver's Camp

Game drives within the Tarangire National Park are offered twice per day starting with an early morning departure to catch the African bush and it's wildlife as it rises with the sun and also at night for an opportunity to to see some of Tanzania’s famous ‘nightlife’, with unforgettable night drives permitted within Tarangire.

For the adventurous fly camping can be booked as part of a walking safari or simply as an exclusive and private night away from the main camp. This small and intimate lightweight camp is a fantastic experience for those seeking a once in a lifetime experience under the open African night sky.

If you are keen to get in some early game viewing or maximize their time watching game, the camp chef can prepare a delicious packed breakfast or lunch to enjoy on your game drive, or while out on walking safari. Walking is the absolute specialty of Oliver's Camp. The privilege of walking in these natural areas gives you an exhilarating feeling of adventure. Although you'll usually get close to large mammals such as elephant, giraffe, buffalo or even lion, walking safaris are very safe. The experienced guides of Oliver's Camp and an armed national park ranger will accompany you on every walk. Walking safaris can take an hour or a whole morning or afternoon, but combined with fly camping, they can take several days, letting you discover the most remote parts of Tarangire.
