Zimbabwe is said to home to the first walking safari and the knowledgeable staff at Camelthorn do not fall short of holding up the tradition. This is an incredibly unique way to get a feel for Africa underfoot while tracking Hwanges giants, the elephant. Morning and evening game drives are also daily activities, as well as a chance to spend some time int he blind. Less than a kilometer away from the lodge and inside Hwange National Park, Camelthorn built an underground blind in front of a beautifully located waterhole – elephants can be photographed from toe level silhouetted against the sky at a distance of 25 feet. Such close proximity to Hwange’s giants is truly breathtaking!
Other activities include pump runs (taking supplies to the pumps that fill the watering holes which provide a much needed drink to the wildlife) and village and school visits that allow you to dive into some of Zimbabwe’s culture.
