Elsa's Kopje
The Lodge
Unashamedly romantic and beautifully styled, Elsa’s Kopje is sculpted into Mughwango Hill, above the site of George Adamson’s original camp where he raised and released orphan lions, long before conservation became fashionable.
Guests can enjoy inimitable seclusion in the vast expanse of Elsa’s Kopje, boasting 870km² , the equivalent of 215,000 acres, of authentic African landscape. The park offers a thriving rhino sanctuary, and is famous for large elephant herds, hippo, lion, and bird life; Meru National Park is recognized as having more diversity of animal species than any other park in East Africa.
The rugged and remote Meru National Park was rescued from oblivion thanks to Elsa’s Kopje, an environmental award-winning, boutique lodge. Winner of the Good Safari Guide’s ‘Best Safari Property in Africa’ award, Elsa’s Kopje is widely renowned as one of the most elegant lodges in Africa.
The Cottages
Nestled into the hillside, and overlooking the vast plains of Meru National Park, each of Elsa’s Kopje’s nine en suite open-fronted cottages are unique in design and offer an elegant safari style. Each cottage consists of a main bedroom, en suite bathroom (some have outdoor baths) and private deck.
The Suite
Overlooking the vast plains of Meru National Park, Elsa’s Honeymoon Suite is a large 3-tiered cottage featuring a private sitting room, main bedroom, en-suite bathroom, and a small private deck.
The House
Overlooking the vast plains of Meru National Park and facing Mt Kenya, Elsa’s Private House consists of one en-suite master bedroom with dressing room, one en-suite twin bedroom, a large dining and sitting room, a private garden and infinity swimming pool.
The Private House can fit two extra beds, for children under 16 years of age.
The Activities
Activities at Elsa’s Kopje include morning and night 4×4 game drives through Meru National Park with spectacular guides, walking safaris including a climb up to the very top of Mughwango Hill, fishing on the palm lined banks of one of Meru’s many rivers, swimming in the camps hill side perched infinity pool, cultural visits with the Tharaka community, an al fresco bush breakfasts and sundowners while you watch the last of the light give way to the perfectly stary African night sky.
Elsa’s Kopje also offers massages as a wonderful way to ease the stress out of tired shoulders and backs. As well as manicure and pedicure to compliment those tanned limbs after a long day on game drive.
The Cuisine
Elsa’s Kopje is renowned for its delicious cuisine. With sumptuous fresh salads and pastas for lunch, combining North Italian recipes with more unusual dishes (such as crispy Tempura Vegetables, Aubergine, Feta and Tomato Stacks with Parmesan ‘Snaps’ and Danish Layer Cake), meals here are simply heaven.
Using fresh salads and herbs from its own garden, and serving homemade bread freshly baked in the camp’s own traditional outdoor pizza oven, you will feel absolutely spoiled.
At Elsa’s Kopje, guests eat on their own individual tables. Dinner is almost always outside, with candlelit tables laid out under the stars. Private romantic dinners can also be arranged.
