Kicheche Mara Camp
The Camp
Kicheche Mara Camp is a classic tented camp hidden in a beautiful acacia valley overlooking the Olare Orok stream. With only 8 tents the intimate and relaxed atmosphere gives you the opportunity to enjoy a unique experience in the prime wildlife area of the Mara North Conservancy. The camp lounge has a stunning view down the valley and offers comfortable seating, a library, board games, cards and local crafts. Kicheche is true to the classic African safari in offering a luxury, yet minimalist, experience.
The Tents
The camp prides itself on offering a friendly and intimate stay. There are just eight tents, each comfortably furnished with proper linen beds, sitting area, chifferobe and an en-suite bathroom, flushing toilet and hot safari shower. Each tent has an outdoor seating area and can be almost completely opened to take advantage of the amazing views overlooking the Olare Orok stream and the western escarpment of the valley. Triple and Quad family tents (1 double & 2 single beds) are also available.
The Activities
Rigid daily schedules are not on Kicheche Mara’s agenda, there are no hard and fast rules allowing guests to decide on their activities. Morning and evening game drives are recommended as those are the best times to spot wildlife. Like us, they stow away in the shade during the hot hours of the afternoon. However, the frequency and duration of your drives is completely up to you as are walking safaris. Head out with a guide to get a feel for Africa under foot, learn more about the insects and plants, and for the once in a lifetime opportunity for a possible up close large wildlife encounter. For a truly unique, and wild, experience you can head out with your guide on a long walk into the bush were fly-camping tents are set up for an over night stay with nothing but the sounds and smell of Africa at night.
Other activities at Kicheche include Maasai Village visits, visits to community projects and schools and hot air ballooning for a birds eye view of the incredibly vast, and beautiful Masai Mara. Hot air ballooning is at an additional cost and should be arranged prior to you departure and village visits ask for a $20 donation to go towards community projects.
