The Lodge
The lodge, built to blend in with the surrounding environment is situated in a tea plantation on the edge of the Nyungwe closed canopy rain forest, home to 13 species of primate including Chimpanzees. The facilities feature a bistro with outdoor heated swimming pool, outdoor boma area for dining and drinks, relaxation retreat with 2 treatment rooms and a Jacuzzi pool, gift boutique, fitness center with treadmill, cycle and free weights, tea lounge and bar, restaurant including private room with private terrace, daily laundry service and wireless internet access at main lodge building.
The Rooms
The spacious rooms are housed in several wooden villas and combine modern fittings with hints of traditional décor. They have either king sized or twin beds, as well as en suite bathrooms with showers. There are also a small number of suites that interconnect to accommodate families, one of which boasts a Jacuzzi.
All rooms feature a lounge area with a fireplace for cooler nights, as well as private decks to take advantage of the forest views. Amenities include air conditioning, electronic safes, TVs, hairdryers and minibars, as well as tea/coffee making facilities.
The Activities
You can visit the nearby tea factory to learn about the tea-making process, or walk to Isumo waterfall (approximately two hours each way). A variety of guided walks around the national park give you the chance to see chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys and grey-cheeked manabeys, as well as birdlife such as giant hornbills and red-breasted sparrowhawks.
