Onguma The Fort
The Camp
Onguma The Fort is built in exactly the right spot to give guests one of the best sunset views in the whole of Namibia – overlooking the beautiful scarceness of the Etosha Pans, decorated only with its wild animals and hundreds of Camel Thorn trees.
Upon entering the massive raw walls of the Onguma Fort you will be received by the friendly staff, stunning stone cladded features and a huge tower with the views toward Etosha and Fisher’s Pan. The Fort surprises at every corner; a classical African feel combined with a touch of Moroccan and Indian flavors, characterized by a selection of the most beautiful antique windows and doors.
The Bush Suites
The Fort consists of 12 Bush Suites, all situated adjacent to the Main Fort extending on both sides to the south and the north. The Sultan suite is situated in the main Fort complex.
Every Bush Suite is completely private and about 50 meters apart from one another and is equipped with a bar fridge, telephone and an air cooling system for those warmer days. The spacious bathroom has both an inside shower as well as an outside shower area. Large decks lead out from the rooms and many hours can we spent relaxing while gazing across the ever active waterhole.
The Sultan Suite
The one and only Sultan Suite is situated inside the Main Tower of the main complex. It has a large beautifully designed bedroom that leads into a lounge area and out onto a private viewing deck. The lounge is equipped with a satellite television system, a bar fridge and telephone facilities. And for those warm evenings, you have an air cooling system as well. The large bathroom has a wonderful open shower area, as well as a bath in which to relax and reflect upon your day’s experiences.
The Activities
Onguma Reserve consists of 34 000 hectares of Namibian wilderness and is home to numerous plains game, more than 300 bird species and even 3 of the “Big 5”. After enjoying a game drive into Etosha National Park in the morning, you have several options to choose from when you return to camp.
Join in on a afternoon sunset nature drive on the Onguma Reserve where our expert guides will explain the many intricacies of the bush or take part in a night drive after dinner and go searching for Onguma’s night life and nocturnal creatures.
In between game drives, get a fell for the African soil on a guided walking safari. Africa takes on a new perspective when you experience it on foot as the first explorers did. A bush walk is a unique physical, mental and spiritual adventure through nature. Experience the sights, smells and sounds of the African bush by conducting an early morning leisurely walk accompanied by one Onguma’s experienced armed rangers. The Fort’s interpretive walks will bring you closer to nature by exposing you to the intimate detail of the surroundings. It is a chance to exist for a period of time in the original, primitive atmosphere of the wilderness; to watch from a respectful distance the intimate lives of wild animals of the African bushveld.
